Bring a blanket, somethings to share, stuff to trade or sell.  Since commerce has a place, but not a focus at PLAY Immersion, we thought it would be fun if everyone had a chance to enjoy each others company.  Join the community meal-time.  Set up a massage chair, sell or trade your jewelery, clothes, toys or whatever.  Sit back and relax.   Play with toys.  Enjoy some delightful music by our friends, King Fish.

Deep Sea Sound Game

Deep Sea Game OnDeep Sea is a game about being vulnerable.

In this audio-only game, players don a mask that obscures their vision and takes over their hearing, plunging them into a world of blackness occupied only by the sound of their own breathing and the rumbles made by unseen terrors. Survival means the careful tracking of a liquid constellation of alien sounds, requiring the player to focus intently to the point of suppressing their own breathing, further reinforcing the sensation of claustrophic isolation. The player fires their weapon and hopes to hear the creature cry out in pain, but more often than not the sound they hear is their shot disappearing uselessly into the void.

The sense of being surrounded by invisible dangers is reinforced by the reality of playing the game in a public space, with the player knowing that all around are people they can neither hear nor see. At the same time spectators can watch the gyrations of the player’s body and hear their voice but have no access to the world the player is experiencing, and so remain helpless to rescue the player from their watery fate.

Play Immersion Video & Photo Contest

Some people’s favorite way to play is in the realm of media.  It is a skillfull joy to catch that perfect moment in time with a photo.  It takes the vision of a storyteller to take many moments and arrange them together in a video.

In the spirit of friendly artistic competition we are going to hold Video and Photo contest!  We are looking for the video that best captures the playful spirit of Play Immersion.  We are also looking for a photo that captures a quintessentially jubilant and playful moment.

“Stairs of Ascension”

by Wesley Bellanca

“Stairs of Ascension” is a next-level visionary multimedia art installation by Austin, TX artist Thoricatha. Drawing from the emerging trend of psychedelic/visionary art but taking it to entirely new places, this large installation contains an eclectic mix of media, including digital art, hand-carved wood, canvas prints, colored pencil, spray paint, and dazzling multi-channel RGB and EL wire lighting. During the day (or with ample external lighting) the deeply intricate visionary art and wood sculpting come to life. At night, the installation transforms as the lighting activates and takes the viewer on a journey of a blending, blinking, and at times sound-reactive colored light display. Along with rich visuals, encoded within the subtle text and symbols across the piece is a powerful and uplifting message that has kept viewers entranced for hours on end.

Stairs of Ascension by Wesley Thoricatha

We love ‘em.  There will be many opportunities for drumming throughout the weekend.
